Ceramics Classes at South Hills Artists Collaborative

Try It! Sessions

Not sure if getting muddy at a ceramics studio is for you? Have you always been curious to try wheel throwing? Or maybe you're looking for something new to do on a date or with a friend. This two-hour wheel class will introduce you to the potter's wheel. You will learn how to center the clay and make small bowls and tumblers. Up to three pieces will be fired and glazed with a color of your choice, ready for pick up 21 days after class. Suggested age 16+ or 10+ with an enrolled adult.


Open Studio

Open Studio - 3 hour sessions *NO INSTRUCTOR*

$40

Are you searching for a ceramics studio to create the work you love? Open Studio classes provide just that opportunity. Join a community of fellow potters to explore hand building and/or wheel thrown pottery and craft the pieces you desire. While an instructor is present, they do not offer formal lessons. Each Open Studio session includes 10lb of house clay (Standard Ceramics #240 ^6). Additional clay can be purchased. Includes glazes and firings, bisque firing to ^04 and glaze firing to ^6.


Young Potters - 6 Sessions

Young Potters - 2 hour sessions

$250

Do you have a young one who loves to be creative and doesn't mind a little mud? (Who doesn't enjoy playing in the mud?) This 6 week class at our studio will introduce students to creating with clay, including both hand building pottery techniques and the potters wheel. With reduced enrollment, each student receives truly individualized attention. All of our instructors hold current PA and National child clearances as a condition for employment. The class includes 25lbs of clay. Ages 10-15


Tiny Potters Camp - 6 Sessions

Tiny Potters - 2 hour sessions

This class for our youngest potters at our ceramics studio focuses on creativity in hand building pottery. Students will be introduced to clay as a fun way to express their creativity. This camp concludes with an "Art Opening" for friends and family on the last day! These classes have reduced enrollment to ensure that each student receives truly individualized attention. All of our instructors hold current PA and National child clearances as a condition for employment. Ages 6 - 9.


All Levels Ceramics Classes - 6 Sessions - Ages 16+

Ceramics with Instructor - 3 hour sessions

$275

Whether you're a beginner or someone looking to enhance your skills, this 6 week class at our studio offers two and a half hours each week with an instructor. You can choose your own adventure: learn hand building pottery techniques, discover how to throw on the potter's wheel, or explore sculpture! Focus on one area or experiment with all the various methods of making with clay. Expect personalized instruction tailored to your interests and experience level. The course includes 25 lbs of clay.


Special Subjects

Colored Clay

$300

Learn to create vibrant and exciting pieces using colored clay!  This six week class will introduce you to Agateware, Nerikomi, Neriage, and Mishima, all ways of working with colored clay. Both wheel and hand building options will be available. Who needs fancy glazes when your clay color is the star of the show?
